Last weekend as I was walking through the cosmetics section of a department store in Long Island, NY, this happened:
Store Clerk: Hi miss. Would you like to smell this men’s cologne and maybe buy it as a gift for your father?
Me: Sorry, he actually passed away. He’s dead.
SC: Oh, sorry!! What about your husband? Father-in-law?
Me: I have no husband or father-in-law.
SC: Boyfriend?
Me: No boyfriend either….
SC: Oh… (with an apologetic look on her face)
Conversation done. Full stop.
She shut down and I was laughing on the inside.
I love these types of awkward interactions. Ha!
At some point I will have a husband and father-in-law to give a Father’s Day gift to. But for now, I’m enjoying the single life. And enjoying these gaffes.
So, Happy Father’s Day to my future baby daddy.
Yeah, I said baby daddy…..
