Happy Father’s Day to My Future Husband, Baby-Daddy and Father-in-Law…

Last weekend as I was walking through the cosmetics section of a department store in Long Island, NY, this happened:

Store Clerk: Hi miss. Would you like to smell this men’s cologne and maybe buy it as a gift for your father?IMG_0857

Me: Sorry, he actually passed away. He’s dead.

SC: Oh, sorry!! What about your husband? Father-in-law?

Me: I have no husband or father-in-law.

SC: Boyfriend?

Me: No boyfriend either….

SC: Oh… (with an apologetic look on her face)

Conversation done. Full stop.

She shut down and I was laughing on the inside.

I love these types of awkward interactions. Ha!

At some point I will have a husband and father-in-law to give a Father’s Day gift to. But for now, I’m enjoying the single life. And enjoying these gaffes.

So, Happy Father’s Day to my future baby daddy.

Yeah, I said baby daddy…..

Life Lessons: Blind Spots, Weaknesses and Asking For Help

IMG_1131Everyone needs people who will call them out on their “ish.”

Trusted confidants who will help you pinpoint your blind spots, speak to you about your weaknesses and help you grow through them in a spirit of love and acceptance.

This past weekend a major blind spot was pointed out to me. I had no idea I was as weak as I was in a particular area of my life until I shared about a certain situation and everyone who was seated at the table around me gasped.

They were shocked. I was shocked at their shock. Everyone was shocked.

When they objectively broke down my story, I began to see the err in my ways and recognized that I needed help. I took it a step further and asked specifically for their help and made plans to fix my situation.

Fix it Jesus….

Blind spots. Weaknesses. We’ve got them.

Sometimes they’re massive and require serious adjustments and sometimes they’re little things that need minor re-alignments. Bottom line: we all have them and we need to be humble enough to admit our shortcomings and move forward.

It’s never too late to change.

I’m now off to re-align a few things…

Inspire Me #6: Fresh Starts…

It’s all about that fresh start; that new beginning!

I’m inspired by those crisp blank pages of life waiting to be journalled on and sketched in. No writer’s or artist’s block here. There’s too much potential, anticipation and excitement waiting to be realized.

Ayeeee!

I know many don’t believe in making New Year resolutions, but that’s ok.  I’m still jumping on that New Year’s resolution bandwagon. I’m excited about that clean slate and what that could mean. Hitting that ‘reset’ button and charting a new course for myself is refreshing.

I can’t begin to even say how excited I am about 2013…

Last year my only resolution was to not be afraid of life’s possibilities and I think I’ve been successful in that goal. I’m now willing to do some out of character things that I didn’t have the guts to do this time last year.

And now this year is all about surrender; surrendering to the process and the plan.

So lets raise our glasses and….

Cheers to new beginnings  “chink”
Cheers to new opportunities “chink”
Cheers to new relationships “chink”
Cheers to life, love and much laughter “chink”

It’s time to fly…
